$2.364M in stimulus money to fund 5 paving projects

Federal stimulus money in the amount of $2,364,000 will fund five Trumbull County paving projects to be done this year

Trumbull County Engineer David DeChristofaro and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, had a kickoff celebration Monday.

The projects will cost about $2.5 million in all. In a normal year, the county engineer’s office does about $1 million in paving, DeChristofaro said,

The kickoff was conducted at Trumbull Avenue and state Route 193.

The five projects are:

Resurfacing of Trumbull Avenue from the Girard city limits to state Route 193 in Liberty Township and West Liberty Street in Weathersfield Township. The projects utilize $590,000 in stimulus money. Construction has started.

Resurfacing of Austintown Warren Road from Burnett East Road to the Warren city limits in Warren Township, Weathersfield Township and Lordstown village. It is funded by $325,000 in stimulus dollars and is under construction.

Resurfacing Carson Salt Springs Road from the Lordstown village limits to Austintown- Warren Road in Weath-ersfield Township and Lordstown village. It uses $543,500 of stimulus money and will begin in mid-June.

Resurfacing Tibbetts Wick Road from state Route 11 to U.S Route 422 in Liberty and Weathersfield townships. The project received $396,000 in stimulus money as well as $80,000 in other federal grants and $20,000 from the Trumbull County engineer’s office. Construction will start in mid-June.

Resurfacing Warren Sharon Road from state Route 7 to Yankee Run Road in Vienna and Brookfield townships. The project uses $520,000 in stimulus money, $104,000 in other federal grant money and $26,000 from the engineer’s office.

DeChristofaro said his office will use its normal allotment of paving money to engineer and design future bridge projects.
