A Trumbull County judge has committed to a Massillon mental-health facility a former Leavittsburg woman who stabbed her grandmother three times.

Crystal Goodrich, 30, will be sent to Heartland Behavioral Healthcare, Judge Peter Kontos of Common Pleas Court ruled Monday.

At a brief trial May 13, Judge Kontos found Good-rich innocent by reason of insanity in the June 2009 stabbing of Ruth V. Jenkins, 81, in Jenkins’ Newton Falls apartment.

Prosecutors agreed with the finding by Dr. Thomas Gazley of the Forensic Psychiatric Center in Austintown that Goodrich was not sane at the time of the offenses.

Hearings will take place in six months and then at two-year intervals to determine what type of treatment is appropriate.

The court has jurisdiction over Goodrich for 13 years, said Chris Becker, an assistant county prosecutor.
