1985: The Rev. Cynthia Bronson, a native of Minnesota, assumes her duties as associate rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church, the first female priest of her denomination in the Youngstown area 10 years after the General Convention of the church approved ordination of women.

The prospects for students who will graduate from Youngstown area high schools and head directly into the job market are improved, but remain poor, an analyst for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services says.

Anticipating revenue from a temporary half-cent county sales tax, Trumbull County commissioners earmark $1 million to cover pay raises and the employment of full staff in 1985.

1935: Speakers for June commencement exercises in Youngstown’s five high schools are announced: Dr. Robert Galbreath, president of Westminster College, Scienceville High School; Dr. C.F. Wishart, president of Wooster College, South High; Dr. W.H. McMaster, president of Mt. Union College, East High; Dr. James S. Thomas, president of Clarkson College, Rayen and Chaney.
