Agency sponsors grief workshops

EAST LIVERPOOL

Catholic Charities will sponsor two grief workshops at the Senior Center, 600 E. Fourth St.

Free and open to the public, the workshops will at 2 p.m. June 3 and 10.

Discussed at the meetings will be the following:

• The grief process and grief journey.

• Stages and emotions of grief.

• Circumstances that affect grief.

• Self-help strategies and additional resources.

Villa Maria to host healing arts class

ALLIANCE

Villa Maria Arts for Alzheimer Program will host a “Creative Spaces for the Healing Arts” art class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 10 at 122 E. College St.

The class will be taught by Karen Elvin, educator, family and school counselor and mental health consultant in art therapy. It will feature different sensory experiences in mandala making, creative journals, soft clay sculptures and mask making. No experience is required.

Each participant will receive a copy of the instructor’s book, “A Collection of the Therapists Heart: Art Therapy and Spirituality.”

The fee is $30 (scholarships available) and includes a light lunch and art supplies.

Strikes may end heart disease

BOARDMAN

Camelot Lanes, 628 Boardman-Canfield Road, will be the venue for a Bowling for Hearts fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. July 10.

The evening of bowling is planned in memory of Ashley Knight, an 18-month-old child who lost her battle with congenital heart disease.

The event is being sponsored by It’s My Heart, a nonprofit organization that supports families of children with CHD, the most common birth defect in the United States.

Chili cook-off open to public

BRACEVILLE

Project “Be Somebody” will host a chili cook-off from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 at Braceville Township Pavilion on state Route 82.

The event is open to the public, and the deadline for cooks to sign up is Sept. 1.

The fee for one entry is $15, two entries are $25, and three are $40 per person or family. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first and second place winners.

For a fee of $5 tasters will have the opportunity to sample 20 different entries.

Signing classes available at center

YOUNGSTOWN

American sign language classes for adults are being offered by the Community Center for the Deaf, 6614 Southern Blvd.

The classes include a workbook and two DVDs and are designed to develop expressive and receptive skills by learning finger spelling, language, grammar/structure and deaf culture.

Faith Court Order of the Amaranth installed a slate of officers during a May 1 meeting at Salem Masonic Building.
