HONORs

World Health speaker

Rebecca M. Patton, a Chaney High School graduate and president of the American Nurses Association, the country’s largest nursing organization, was selected to be a part of the U.S. delegation to the 63rd World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, earlier this month.

The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization. The annual meeting focuses on a number of public-health issues, including the implementation of international health regulations, monitoring health-related millennium development goals, and discussing strategies to reduce the harmful use of alcohol.

Patton, the daughter of Robert and Mary Ellen Patton of Youngstown’s West Side, addressed the International Council of Nurses Conference on May 12.

Burdman Group Inc. was honored at the Mahoning Valley Safety Council Annual Awards luncheon at the Maronite Center recently for being the only council member to receive all four of the 2010 Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation safety awards.

There are 458 companies and organizations that make up the local safety council, the largest in the state. Out of the 458 companies, 183 received one, two or three of the awards.
