NILES

Connie Randolph, author of the children’s book, “Casper Joe,” will be at Borders, 2102 Niles-Cortland Road SE, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday to sign copies of her book.

“Casper Joe” is a story of a puppy adopted by loving parents and living in what seems to be a perfect world — until he gets sick. Then he must learn to be brave while at the veterinarian’s office so he can enjoy his new life.

Poet’s book is wry homage to childhood

“How to Catch a Falling Knife” is the debut book of poetry by Daniel Johnson, a Salem native who has written for a variety of journals and anthologies.

Published by Alice James Books, a cooperative poetry press, the book is full of strong imagery, poignant surprises and narratives. The poems are deeply introspective and are a mournful but wry homage to a childhood in the Rust Belt and to the subtle dangers of family and overpowering love.
