Emergency surgery for U2’s Bono

BERLIN

The manager of U2 says that frontman Bono has undergone emergency back surgery in a Munich hospital after he was injured while preparing for the group’s tour. The 50-year-old, whose real name is Paul Hewson, is under the care of neurosurgeon Dr. Joerg Tonn and Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt, according to a statement on U2’s website. Band manager Paul McGuinness, in an MP3 posted on the website, said Friday that because of the injury, the band’s “360-Degree” June 3 show in Salt Lake City, Utah, has been postponed. Gun charge denied

LOS ANGELES

An attorney for Marion “Suge” Knight is denying allegations that the former rap mogul pulled a gun on a man in South Los Angeles. Knight was arrested in suburban Gardena on Thursday. Police say his Cadillac Escalade was stopped after a man claimed Knight pointed a gun at him. Knight was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and on a warrant claiming he drove with a suspended license. He was released on $65,000 bail the same day.

Knight’s attorney, Marc Brumer, denied Friday that a confrontation ever happened. He says Knight pulled into a gas station and was surrounded by a crowd of admirers but drove off quickly without leaving the vehicle. He says Knight didn’t have a gun.

No charges have been filed.

Teen idol Bieber walks into door

Teen idol Justin Bieber walked smack into the glass of an automatic revolving door when trying to exit a German hotel, sending his fans into a blogging frenzy. “Ouch! I just walked into that door ... my forehead hurts ... I walked right into the window,” Bieber told a local broadcast team that captured the incident on camera as he was exiting the Radisson Blu hotel in Frankfurt. Bieber can be seen in the video trying to push the automatic door, then turning to walk out, but instead smacking his forehead against the glass.

Casey James looks to life after ‘Idol’

LOS ANGELES

Casey James wants to appeal to more than the opposite sex in his post-“American Idol” music career, despite what judge Kara DioGuardi has to say. During a teleconference Friday, the tall, sweet-smiling Texan said he likes to think his appeal goes beyond what DioGuardi has described as his core demographic of women and girls. James says he doesn’t regret taking his shirt off at DioGuardi’s request during his first tryout with the judges. He says it may have put him in the contest and he was then able to prove his talent. The 27-year-old musician from Fort Worth made it to the top three before he was eliminated by the voting audience this week.

‘I threw it away,’ says Jesse James

NEW YORK

Jesse James says he took an amazing life and threw it all away. The estranged husband of Oscar winner Sandra Bullock gave his first television interview to ABC’s “Nightline,” scheduled to air Tuesday. ABC says in a brief excerpt released Friday that James publicly apologized to Bullock and his three children for cheating on her.

When asked by ABC’s Vicki Mabrey whether he was the most hated man in America for cheating on “America’s sweetheart,” James said most-hated man in the world is probably more like it. The tattooed biker and host of “Monster Garage” says he “took an amazing life and amazing success and marriage ... and threw it away by my own hands.”
