Yurcho wins flag essay contest

It’s red, white and blue and was the topic of an essay won by an Austintown student.

St. Joseph Immaculate Heart of Mary student Vince Yurcho won a $100 savings bond as grand prize winner of St. Stanislaus Post No. 1222 Catholic War Veterans’ annual essay contest that asked, “What does the United States flag mean to you?”

This year’s contest had close to 325 submissions from seven different schools and featured an annual awards breakfast Sunday at St. Stanislaus Church Hall.

SJIHM students Alyson Jones and Courtney Dockry each won a $20 honorable mention award for their submissions.
