The event was held Apr. 27 at Mount Carmel Social Hall.

More than 200 registered nurses from Humility of Mary Health Partners hospitals were honored for achieving nursing certification at a dinner Apr. 27 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Social Hall in Youngstown.

The guest speaker for the event was James H. Collins, psychotherapist and author of the new book, “The Person-Centered Way.” The topic of his one-hour presentation was work-life balance.

Other speakers at the event were Cathy Tolbert, senior vice president of nursing and clinical services/chief nursing officer for HMHP, and Bob Shroder, president and CEO of HMHP.

Certification by professional boards is a voluntary activity for registered nurses. Nearly 250 registered nurses working at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown; St. Joseph Health Center, Warren; and St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center have taken the extra step of certification in their nursing field.

Each nurse honored at the dinner received a tote bag and portfolio with the inscription “Humility of Mary Health Partners Certified Nurse.”

Certification means the nurse has met national standards for competency, validating his/her skills, knowledge and abilities. Several organizations provide accurate measures of professional competency including those for medical-surgical, critical care, operating room, maternity, oncology and rehabilitation nurses.
