Register for Gus Macker basketball

Registration is now open for the Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament July 31 through Aug. 1 at the Covelli Centre.

The tournament is open to male and female youth and adults of all ages, sizes and abilities. Teams are computer-matched into competitive divisions according to the age, height and playing experience of all players on each roster to ensure fair competition.

Teams may register online at www.macker.com by July 12 or call 330-406-1424 to request a mail-in application, which must be postmarked by July 9.

The four-person team entry fee is $124. Proceeds support Youngstown Christian School, with a portion benefiting local military members.

Boardman Boosters now 4-0 in BCB action

The Boardman Boosters youth baseball team defeated Phantom Fireworks 8-4 in Boardman Community Baseball action Sunday. The teams play in the Boys Major division.

Sam Varga picked up the pitching win and added two hits, including a a home run. Nick Stamp and Lou Cardona each added two hits. The Boosters are now 4-0 on the season.

Devin Curd led the Phantom Fireworks’ offense with a three-run homer.

Track members advance to regionals

Three individuals and one relay team qualified for next week’s regional track meet after competing Wednesday at the Division I district meet at Fitch.

Boardman’s Allen Starkey, a sophomore, won the long jump with a distance of 22-3‚Ñ4, while Joe Bialik finished fourth in the pole vault (12-6).

Valerie Hood, a senior, was second in the shot put with a throw of 40-3 1/4. The 4X800 relay team of Colleen Kratofil, Katie Heney, Tori More and Emily Bodamer finished third in a time of 10:12.31.
