Poland eighth-grader superior at national twirling contest

Madeline Crish, an eighth-grader at Poland Middle School, and Rebecca Platt, senior at Springfield Local, represented Northern Strut Twirling Teams at the Marching Auxiliaries national championships in Fort Worth, Texas.
In the twirling solo senior division, Platt received a Superior I rating on her solo and in the junior division, Crish received a Superior I rating on her solo.
Crish placed sixth overall in the junior solo division.
The girls are coached by Janet Gbur of Canfield, a former Youngstown State University majorette and current instructor for the Boardman Spartan Twirlers.
Northern Strut Twirling Teams, established in 1995, is a local twirling group that specializes in both recreational and competitive baton twirling and flag line/color guard twirling.
Northern Strut is under the direction of Gbur with flag line/color guard instruction by Phemie Colonna and additional instruction by Katie Kingsley.
