Dobbins home to handwriting state champion

Neighbors | Shaiyla Hakeem .Dobbins' Carrigan Sundstrom was named as handwriting state champion for Zaner-Bloser's handwriting competition. Sundstrom is in fourth grade and her sister, Cailor, was the grade level winner for second grade.

Dobbins Elementary honored superior handwriting May 14 of three students who competed and placed in a statewide handwriting competition.

Language Arts and Reading Company Zaner-Bloser sponsored the competition with a representative on hand to present certificates to Dobbins’ winners.

Second-grader Marialana Gajdos received a certificate of merit and classmate Cailor Sundstrom was the grade level winner. Fourth-grader Carrigan Sundstrom was named as Ohio’s state champion for handwriting. More than 300,000 students participated in Zaner-Bloser’s competition.

For the competition, students were given an excerpt to copy in cursive and faculty chose the best writers to compete at the state level. Dobbins values writing and implements writing exercises into classes each day.

This is the second year Dobbins has participated in the handwriting contest and has been home to the state champion both years.

A $200 gift certificate was awarded to Dobbins from Zaner-Bloser that will be used for purchasing products that will aid in the teaching and improvement of handwriting.
