Cockrell to play baseball at LaRoche

From being a 6-year-old pitcher in Dallas, Texas, to a pitcher and outfielder in Ohio, one Canfield High School senior’s baseball journey is taking a new turn.

Breland Cockrell has committed to continue his education and baseball career at LaRoche College in Pittsburgh.

“Breland is a perfect fit for us here at La Roche with his stellar academics and potential on the mound; we are very excited to have Breland and the Cockrell family join our family here at LaRoche College,” said LaRoche head coach Chase Rowe.

At Canfield, Cockrell is an honor roll student, three-year lettermen on the bowling team and has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Cockrell has played in various All-Star and travel clubs in Texas, Florida and Ohio.

He is now playing for the Dave Sugar Excavating team in the Youngstown Class B league.

“Breland has earned this opportunity, fighting through many obstacles which were dealt him.

Breland will do well not only on the diamond, but in the classroom,” said head coach Dave Sugar.

Cockrell will pursue a degree in industrial engineering at LaRoche.
