Billock Construction wins Businessmen’s League bowling title


Billock Construction, led by Shane Yesovich’s 243 game and 694 set, was victorious over Prout Boiler and became the 2009-2010 champions of the Boardman Businessmen’s League.

The 12-team league, which recently concluded its 48th season at Boardman Lanes, bowled Tuesday evenings over a 32-week period.

Prout Boiler was led by Bill DeCicco whose roll-off scores included a 257 game and a 663 set.

Additional Billock team members included Dave Billock, Sr., Dave Billock, Jr., Tom Billock, Norm Dibkey, Phil Frame and Jim Waring.

Remaining members of the Prout team included Pete Chick, Ron Chick, Steve Garasic, Steve Fisher and Russ Turner with Todd Bury and John Cullen serving as subs.

After a five-game Waste-Tech/Prout Boiler semifinal match, Waste-Tech finished third, while the other semifinalist, Five Guys, placed fourth.

The Waste-Tech team includes Bill Arts, Sean Flanagan, Dave Kiraly, Dick Marlowe, Glen Milton, Jr. and Jim Mitchell.

Mike Ciolli, Richard Knox, Dave Kuszaj, Bob Latimer, Dan Roberts and Todd Terlizzi make up the Five Guys team.

The season was highlighted by three perfect 300 games. Artz, Jerry Mariotto and Brian Umstead earned those perfect scores.

Other high games were recorded by Yesovich with 298, Boardman Lanes co-proprietor Rich Wilson with 290, Eric Grischow with 289 and Bill Stanko with 288.

B. Umstead, with a 215 average, outdistanced John Dohar’s 210 for the high average award.

Rich Evans, with a 207, edged out Artz and Mike Dohar’s 206’s for third.

Others with 200-plus averages included William Smith (202), Grischow (201), Anthony Mastrangelo, Jr. (201) and Jim Wellington (201). Floyd Barron, Dibkey, Tom Panagopoulos and Wilson finished with 199 averages. B. Umstead also tossed the league’s high set, an impressive 794 series. Yesovich bested John Durkin 316 to 311 for the high game handicap award. Yesovish also out-rolled Cullen 827 to 811 for the high set with handicap.

The league’s most improved award went to Knox who increased his average by 14 pins.

Bob Stanko received the league’s 24th annual Pete Chick, Sr. Memorial Award for outstanding fellowship and sportsmanship at the annual banquet and golf outing which was held May 8 at Valley Golf Course in Columbiana.
