Application glitches hold up Ohio appliance rebates

COLUMBUS (AP) — Thousands of Ohioans waiting for a state appliance rebate check are learning there were problems with their application.

Officials say postcards seeking more information have gone to about 20 percent of the 70,000 people who bought energy efficient appliances and sought rebates under this spring’s popular program.

The Ohio Department of Development says some consumers did not include required model numbers or store information with their rebate paperwork. Others sent photocopies of their store receipt, but the originals were needed.

The postcards give a June 4 deadline for submitting whatever is missing.

Meanwhile, on Monday the state will offer another $1.3 million in rebate money on purchases of dishwashers, washing machines and refrigerators.
