POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

May 14

Theft: Someone removed a portion of wooden flooring from a rental unit in the 300 block of North Main Street.

May 15

Menacing: A West Liberty Street man reported getting various threats.

Arrest: Boardman police held Kara Sims, no information provided, who was wanted by Hubbard authorities on a charge of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.

May 17

Aggravated menacing: A Moore Street man reported having been threatened by a neighbor.

Assault: A School Street woman told police a man showed up at her home covered in blood, saying he had been beaten up with a baseball bat. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

May 18

Theft: A family who had rented a saxophone from Hubbard Music, 51 N. Main St., moved without returning the instrument.

LIBERTY

May 13

Assault: A 9-year-old girl on Kris Lane who became angry when a boy, 15, rode her bicycle, reported the teen intentionally struck her leg with the bicycle. The boy said the girl had hit him several times in the back.

Theft: Laswasa J. Pickett, 35, of 1470 Stewart St., Youngstown faced charges of theft and criminal trespassing after bottles of moisturizer and lotion were among items stolen from Rite Aid Pharmacy, 2704 Belmont Ave.

Arrest: Police pulled over a vehicle on state Route 193, where they arrested 21-year-old Jaymelyn Williams, 711 St. Clair Ave., Girard, on a probation-violation charge.

May 14

Arrest: Police booked Jason D. Dukes, 23, of 2421 Ohio Ave., Youngstown, at the Mahoning County jail on a warrant from the township accusing him of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.

Breaking and entering: Police discovered the front door to a home in the 3500 block of Cardinal Drive was open and that copper pipes were missing from the basement.

Burglary: Took place in the 100 block of Oriole Drive through the front door. The burglar fled after coming face to face with a neighbor.

Theft/damage: Officers apprehended 40-year-old David M. Leach, 1320 W. Montrose Ave., Liberty, and charged him with theft and criminal damaging. Leach was accused of stealing a bottle of cleansing cream from Rite Aid Pharmacy and breaking a glass door as he left.

Theft: A man took money designated for a charitable organization from a business in the 3100 block of Belmont Avenue.

Burglary: To a residence in the 1000 block of Ravine Drive via a rear door. Stolen was about $11,600 worth of jewelry.

Criminal damaging: A cable to a gate was cut in the 10 block of Colonial Drive.

Identity fraud: A Secrist Lane woman discovered her personal information had been used to open a utilities account, with a $109 outstanding balance.

May 15

Drugs: While assisting with an arrest in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue, police also took into custody 22-year-old Travis L. Hassan, 510 Sheridan St., Hermitage, Pa., on a drug-abuse charge. Hassan had a powdery substance that appeared to be suspected heroin, a report said.

Assault: A Warren man told authorities a woman struck him in the face as he tried to mediate an argument at a Tuttle Drive residence.

Theft: Charges were pending against a 35-year-old Poland woman and a Youngstown woman, 45, after $178 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.

May 16

Breaking and entering: Police responded to a Harding Avenue residence regarding possible stolen property and later charged 18-year-old Joel F. Curry, 1637 Harding, and Richard L. Webber Jr., 22, of 1611 Garfield Ave., Girard, with breaking and entering and receiving stolen property. A Niles woman reported someone had entered her garage and removed a snow blower and several other tools.

May 17

Harassment: A Craig Lane woman reported a man has been making 10 to 15 harassing calls each day and sending numerous unwanted daily text messages.

Breaking and entering: Someone cut a screen and entered a garage in the 1500 block of Harding Avenue before stealing a $2,000 wood-splitter machine.

Attempted burglary: Occurred when someone kicked in a rear door to a home in the 1300 block of East Liberty Street. An alarm apparently scared the intruder, who fled without having entered.

Theft: Police charged Jeffrey L. Thompson, 46, of 554 W. Sherwood Ave., Youngstown, with stealing a $10 hoodie from Walmart.

May 19

Criminal damaging: Someone placed sugar in a vehicle’s gas tank, causing $500 in damage, in the 20 block of Tuttle Drive.

GIRARD

May 16

Theft: A Church Hill Road man reported the theft of a $600, 42-inch flat-screen TV from his apartment.

Arrest: Officers responded to a dog-bite complaint in the 200 block of Broadview Avenue and took into custody the dog’s owner, Christina Morris, of 507 Dearborn Ave., Girard, upon learning she was wanted on warrants from the county.

May 17

Theft: A $250 global-positioning- system device was taken from a car in the 500 block of East Kline Street.

May 19

Theft: A Washington Avenue man discovered OxyContin tablets missing from a bedroom.
