Ohio soldier killed in Afghanistan attack

PERRYSBURG, Ohio (AP) — Military officials say a soldier from suburban Toledo was one of five Americans killed in a deadly attack on NATO forces in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon says 44-year-old Lt. Col. Thomas Belkofer from Perrysburg died Tuesday in Kabul after a suicide bomber attacked a convoy he was in.

The attack, the deadliest on NATO forces in Kabul in eight months, also killed four other U.S. soldiers and a Canadian.

Belkofer was assigned to Headquarters, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), out of Fort Drum, N.Y.
