Thankfully, summertime is right around the corner, which means there are dozens of concert tours scheduled to make their way through Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Aside from relative newcomers Lady Gaga and the Zac Brown Band, along with the restart of the Lilith Fair festival, the 2010 concert guide is filled with familiar faces (Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Jimmy Buffett, Dave Matthews Band, O.A.R, Phish, 311) that invariably never let a summer go by without touring the nation and vying for their fans’ entertainment dollar. Here’s a list of the bigger shows coming to our neck of the woods, at amphitheaters and arenas:

Blossom Music Center

1145 W. Steels Corners Road, Cuyahoga Falls (Ticketmaster locations or www.ticketmaster.com)

“Country Throwdown Tour” featuring Montgomery Gentry, 1 p.m. May 20, $21 to $41 Country music fans looking for an evening of sing-along fun will want to check out the “Country Throwdown Tour,” which finds Montgomery Gentry, Jamey Johnson, Little Big Town, Jack Ingram, Eric Church and Eli Young Band sharing the stage.

Sugarland with Luke Bryan and Danny Gokey, 7:30 p.m. June 5, $26 to $49.75 It was only a few years ago that Sugarland was opening up for some of country music’s biggest stars. Now the Music City act is headlining its own major summer outing, “The Incredible Machine Tour.”

Phish, 7:30 p.m. June 12, $50 After taking off the better part of the last decade, Phish is back in action with yet another summer tour. Heir apparent to the Grateful Dead legacy, the jam band is supporting its latest effort, 2009’s “Joy.”

Toby Keith with special guests Trace Atkins and James Otto, 7 p.m. June 20, $34 to $74 Literally a year and two days after his last visit to Northeast Ohio, country music superstar Toby Keith is back for another raucous evening of “Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue [The Angry American]” fun.

Dave Matthews Band with Martin Sexton, 7 p.m. June 25, $40 to $70 Summertime means yet another tour by the Dave Matthews Band, which is still supporting its oddly titled album “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.” Invariably it’ll be another night of jam-band fun from this touring giant.

Foreigner and Styx with Kansas, 7 p.m. June 26, $15 to $65 It was exactly 30 years ago that Foreigner and Styx were ruling the arena rock world. Now the two classic rock giants are teaming up for a co-headlining tour that includes opener Kansas.

Lynyrd Skynyrd & Bret Michaels with 38 Special, 7 p.m. July 8, $25 to $59.50 Considering his recent medial issues, including a brain hemorrhage that left him in the ICU for weeks, Bret Michaels is hopeful his package tour with southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd is still a go. Just in case, you should probably confirm the Northeast Ohio show is happening before driving out to Blossom.

“The Last Rodeo Tour” featuring Brooks & Dunn, 7:30 p.m. July 9, $20 to $69.50 Billed as a swansong, “The Last Rodeo Tour” finds Brooks & Dunn hitting the road this summer with opener Gary Allan. After celebrating their 20th year together, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn are going to hang up their boots. But first it’s another party with fans.

Iron Maiden with Dream Theater, 7:30 p.m. July 15, $25 to $85 With the release of its new album “The Final Frontier,” ‘70s metal legend Iron Maiden is touring this summer with Dream Theater supporting. Invariably, this is a prog rock/heavy metal fan’s dream come true bill.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers with Drive-By Truckers, 7:30 p.m. July 20, $41 to $131 Even though there were hints by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers that the act may have recorded its last album with 2002’s “The Last DJ,” the classic rock staple band has announced plans to release new CD “Mojo” in June. Naturally the effort will be followed-up by a nationwide tour filled with sing-along hits.

“To The Sea Tour” featuring Jack Johnson, 7 p.m. July 21, $35 to $55 With a soft voice and breezy melodies, Hawaiian native and singer-songwriter Jack Johnson has become popular with the Jimmy Buffet and Dave Matthews Band crowd. He’s touring his fifth studio effort “To The Sea Tour,” which includes single “You and Your Heart.”

“H20 World Tour” featuring Brad Paisley with Darius Rucker, Justin Moore and Easton Corbin, 4 p.m. July 23, $28.50 to $59.75 Country music superstar Brad Paisley has water on his mind. Not only is his current radio single named “Water,” which can be found on his latest CD “American Saturday Night,” but he’s calling his new concert outing the “H20 World Tour” in hopes of drawing attention to the fact that one out of five people around the world lack access to safe drinking water.

Kings of Leon, Built to Spill and The Still, 7:30 p.m. July 26, $29.50 to $49.50 A new Kings of Leon album may be nowhere in sight (a new effort is expected later this year), but that doesn’t mean the Tennessee rock act, which broke through last year with its multi-platinum “Only By The Night,” can’t tour outdoor venues this summer.

Lilith Fair 2010 featuring Sarah McLachlan, 2:30 p.m. July 27, $41.50 to $252 It wasn’t too long ago Lilith Fair visionary Sarah McLachlan vowed not to revisit the popular female-based touring festival, which last hit the road over a decade ago. However, the Canadian singer-songwriter apparently succumbed to the lure of cash. Lilith Fair 2010 features McLachlan, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson and more.

“Southern Voice Tour” featuring Tim McGraw with Lady Antebellum and Love And Theft, 7 p.m. Aug. 5, $33.50 to $69.50

Tim McGraw is touring his latest studio effort “Southern Voice.” As big as McGraw may be, it’s opening act Lady Antebellum that has all of the Music City momentum with its recently released, double-platinum album “Need You Now.”

“20-10 Tour” featuring Creed, 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6, $10 to $20 After reuniting last year, post-grunge act Creed is hoping to keep the momentum going with its new “20-10 Tour.” The outing is the band’s way to stand up against rising concert costs with tickets specially priced at $20 and $10. The first 2,010 reserved seats are $20 all-in, meaning fans pay a flat rate with no added service charges. The remaining seats will be priced at either $20 or $10, plus applicable ticketing fees. The only downside is you have to sit through a Creed concert.

John Mayer with The Avett Brothers, 7 p.m. Aug. 13, $30 to $63.50 It appears as though singer-songwriter John Mayer is one of those artists who on stage is amazing but often gets his self-absorbed self into trouble when speaking to the press. This was the case with recent racial and sexual comments made while talking about his latest CD “Battle Studies.” The good news is this topnotch guitarist will be doing more playing and less talking on his summer jaunt.

Zac Brown Band with Casey Driessen and The Wood Brothers, 7 p.m. Aug. 20, $20.50 to $34.50 There is little debate over the past few years the Zac Brown Band is the biggest rags-to-riches story in country music. Formed a decade ago, the Georgia group parlayed non-stop touring and a grassroots effort to become one of Nashville’s biggest acts with its platinum 2008 effort “The Foundation.” Having recently won a Grammy Award for “Best New Artist,” the fun-loving outfit is taking a celebratory headlining lap across the states this summer.

Warped Tour, 11 a.m. July 7, $24 As always, the best summer concert deal is the Warped Tour. This year’s punk-based bill includes Andrew W.K, All American Rejects, Mayday Parade, We The Kings, Sum 41, The Cab, Motion City Soundtrack, Face to Face, The Bouncing Souls and many, many more.

“Southern Voice Tour” featuring Tim McGraw with Lady Antebellum and Love And Theft, 7 p.m. July 8, $29 to $64

Lynyrd Skynyrd & Bret Michaels with 38 Special, 7 p.m. July 11, $25 to $59.50 Considering his recent medial issues, including a brain hemorrhage that left him in the ICU for weeks, Bret Michaels is hopeful his package tour with southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd is still a go. Just in case, you should probably confirm the show is happening before driving out to the Pittsburgh area.

“The Mayhem Festival” featuring Korn, Rob Zombie, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch and more, 2:15 p.m. Aug. 7, $25 to $49.50 The loud and raucous “Mayhem Festival,” which is entering its third-season, has become an Ozzfest-like affair. This year’s headliner Korn is celebrating its ninth studio effort “Korn III – Remember Who You Are,” due in stores on July 13.

Jonas Brothers with Demi Lovato and friends from Camp Rock, Aug. 11 (on sale at 10 a.m. May 22) Hoping to cash in on its Disney Channel fame for as long as its tweener audience still cares, the Jonas Brothers are touring its third studio effort “Lines, Vines and Trying Times” for what invariably be yet another scream-fest. Opening is Joe Jonas’ girlfriend Demi Lovato.

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, 8 p.m. Aug. 12, $36 to $136 While Jimmy Buffett’s upcoming return to Pennsylvania doesn’t come as a surprise, what is somewhat shocking is that tickets are still available for the show. Odds are the Parrothead nation will unite before this August show and give their captain yet another packed “Margaritaville” tour stop.

Ozzfest 2010, Ozzy Osbourne, M ∂tley Cr ºe, Rob Halford, Black Label Society and more, Aug. 19 (on sale at noon May 22) With only a half a dozen dates around the country, Ozzfest returns in 2010 after a brief hiatus finding metal legend Ozzy Osbourne bringing out some of his old party buddies. Diehard fans better take note that this is the only regional stop for the bill, which means odds are it’ll sellout.

Kings of Leon, The Black Keys & The Whigs, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7, $30.50 to $50.50

Quicken Loans

One Center Court, Cleveland (call 888-894-9424 or visit theQarena.com)

Maxwell and Jill Scott, 7 p.m. May 21, $49.50 to $149.50 Over the past decade, the soul genre has been dominated by the likes of Maxwell and Jill Scott. Now the Grammy Award-winners are teaming up for a spring tour, which kicks off in the Rock Hall City.

“Troubadour Reunion Tour” featuring Carole King and James Taylor, 7:30 p.m., July 7, $45 to $125 Baby boomers will be happy to learn Carole King and James Taylor have added another leg to their successful “Troubadour Reunion Tour,” which includes a Cleveland show. The two legends actually reconnected three years ago at the 50th anniversary celebration of famed Los Angeles club The Troubadour.

“Monster Ball Tour” featuring Lady Gaga, 8 p.m. July 14, sold out Easily the biggest name in pop music today, Lady Gaga makes her Cleveland debut with a sold-out “Monster Ball Tour” Cleveland date. This proves the “Poker Face” singer, at least for the time being, has entered into ubiquitous pop culture waters, a la Madonna.

Jonas Brothers with Demi Lovato and friends from Camp Rock, Aug. 31, $32, $52, $72, $92.

“2010 American Idol Live! Tour,” 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11, $40.50 to $70.50 Now that the current season of popular reality show “American Idol” is nearing another winner producers have already announced the lineup for this year’s “2010 American Idol Live! Roger Waters, 8 p.m. Sept. 28, $58 to $202 If there’s been one constant nagging complaint among Pink Floyd fans it’s that the classic rock act never fully toured its 1979 masterpiece “The Wall.” Now comes word that “The Wall” visionary Roger Waters, who no longer performs with his ex-Pink Floyd band mates, will be playing the album in its entirety this fall with a large-scale tour that includes state-of-the-art production (yeah, that means an actual wall will be built and destroyed on stage).

The English band returns to Northeast Ohio for its second visit in as many years at the Nautica Pavilion.

Ringo Starr & his All-Starr Band, 8 p.m. July 20, $40 to $85 After years off the road, the Ringo Starr & his All-Starr Band tour returns this summer with a new lineup – Starr, Edgar Winter, Gary Wright, Rick Derringer, Richard Page (Mr. Mister), Wally Palmar (Romantics) and Gregg Bissonette – offering the Beatles drummer a little help from his friends.

The Black Keys, 8 p.m. July 24, $30 Formed roughly a decade ago, Akron’s The Black Keys have gone from hipster blues act to mainstream band. Now the twosome is ready to take a major leap forward with its sixth full-length album “Brothers,” which finds guitarist-vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney venturing into uncharted indie-soul and blues waters.

O.A.R. with Citizen Cope, 7 p.m. July 22, $33.50 Formed on the Ohio State University campus, O.A.R remains popular on the jam-band circuit. Backstreet Boys, 8 p.m. Aug. 27, $35 to $65 Even though the boy band zeitgeist ended nearly a decade ago, the Backstreet Boys are desperately trying to keep their career going with new studio effort “This is Us.” Supposedly the new album has more of the dance sounds the group used to become a multi-platinum act. Let’s see how that works out for Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean.

Grandparents will want to bring their dancing shoes; everyone else may want to bring their iPods.

L.A. Guns, Dokken, Trixter and Danger Danger, $5 to $25, May 30 (Great American Rib Cook-Off) To be fair, if L.A. Gun’s 1991 CD “Hollywood Vampires” would have been released in 1988, the Sunset Strip act would have been as big as Poison. Then again, we thankfully don’t need another Poison. As for the rest of the line-up, music historians cite them all as culpable for the extinction of hair-metal.

Rusted Root with moe., 5:30 p.m. May 31, $5 to $20 (Great American Rib Cook-Off) What is it with Rusted Root celebrating holidays in Cleveland? Not only does the Pittsburgh-based band play an annual New Year’s Eve celebration at the House of Blues, but now the “Send Me On My Way” band has added Memorial Day as well.

Limp Bizkit with Method Man and Red Man, 7 p.m. July 5, $39.50 Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Limp Bizkit is back in action in 2010 with a tour and new album “Gold Cobra.” While the CD doesn’t have a release date yet, the recently reunited band – Fred Durst (lead vocals), Wes Borland (guitar), Sam Rivers (bass), John Otto (drums) and DJ Lethal – returns to Cleveland hoping to “Break Stuff” and impress the “Nookie.”

“Get Your Sting and Black Out World Tour 2010” featuring Scorpions with Great White, 8 p.m. July 5, $25 to $65 The word from German hard rock act the Scorpions is that the band’s new CD “Sting in the Tail” and tour will be its last. Diehards may remember the “Rock You Like a Hurricane” group actually was on the bill for the 1979 “World Series of Rock” show held at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium.

Warped Tour, noon, July 8, $37.25 As always, the best summer concert deal is the Warped Tour. This year’s punk-based bill includes Alkaline Trio, Andrew W.K, All American Rejects, Face to Face, Every Time I Die, Hey Monday and many, many more.

There’s also talk of a new album coming out in 2011. Opening is gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello, which is touring its new Rick Rubin-produced CD “Transcontinental Hustle.”

“Carnival of Madness Tour” featuring Shinedown, 5 p.m. August 9, $39.50 Rock radio fans will want to check out this year’s Carnival of Madness Tour, which features headliner Shinedown joined by Chevelle, Puddle of Mudd, Sevendust and 10 Years.

2010 Honda Civic Tour featuring Paramore with Tegan and Sara, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10, $36 This year’s 2010 Honda Civic Tour features current hot rock act Paramore. The Hayley Williams-led, Nashville-based act is touring its latest effort “Brand New Eyes.” Opening is folk/rock act Tegan and Sara, which came through Northeast Ohio earlier this year.

“American Carnage” with Slayer, Megadeth and Testament, 7 p.m. Aug. 18, $42.50 With a tour name like “American Carnage,” you better believe Taylor Swift won’t be on the bill. Metalheads get ready for this summer’s loud outing featuring Slayer and Megadeth with special guest Testament.

“Love On The Run Tour” featuring REO Speedwagon and Pat Benatar, 7 p.m. Aug. 21, $30 to $85 It’s been 15 years since REO Speedwagon and Pat Benatar toured together. The two arena rock acts are joining forces for a walk-down-memory-lane event. Opening will be Keaton Simons.

The legendary folk-rock act, which was inducted into the Rock Hall in 1997, is known for such hits as “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” “Southern Cross” and “Wooden Ships.”

Jackson Browne with David Lindley, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19, $25 to $69.50 Not a day goes by that local classic rock stations don’t play a song from Jackson Browne’s catalog, including critically-acclaimed albums “Late For The Sky” and “The Pretender.” The ‘70s singer-songwriter’s last studio effort was “Time the Conqueror,” which was released in 2008.
