Woman bitten by loose dog in her South Side neighborhood

YOUNGSTOWN — Police said a 37-year-old Cambridge Avenue woman suffered serious injuries when she was bitten by a large dog as she was leaving her home around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The victim told authorities she walked the back door of her home and was attacked by what she described as a large, black German shepherd-type dog.

The animal jumped on her, biting her on the face, neck and chin before she was able to get free, she said. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman for treatment.

The victim said she’d never seen the dog in her South Side neighborhood before. Police searched the area but couldn’t find the dog.
