Ohio Senate probes aborted governor's home sting

COLUMBUS (AP) — A requirement that she sign away her legal immunity may prevent Ohio’s top public safety official from testifying on her own behalf about a cancelled sting at the governor’s residence.

While a state Senate hearing got under way today, her lawyer told The Associated Press that Public Safety Director Cathy Collins-Taylor had not yet determined whether to sign an immunity waiver and answer questions.

The Criminal Justice Committee is considering her role in the sting and whether to recommend her confirmation by Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland.

Sen. Tim Grendell, the committee’s Republican chairman, says he’ll take a vote on Collins-Taylor’s confirmation with or without her input.
