Ohio mayor resigns over police trysts

MILFORD, Ohio (AP) — The mayor of a southwest Ohio suburb has stepped down over her affair with a city police officer who allegedly visited her home repeatedly while on duty.

Amy Brewer resigned Tuesday night as mayor of Milford, a small city just east of Cincinnati. But she said she will complete her city council term that expires in 2014.

Brewer told the council she felt it was in the city’s best interests that she quit as mayor.

Officer Russell Kenney began serving a 15-day unpaid suspension last week after police said he had visited Brewer’s home while on duty six times, staying from 48 minutes to nearly two hours.

Brewer admitted having an affair when questioned by police. She had separated from her husband, and Kenney is estranged from his wife.
