YOUNGSTOWN

A city firefighter suffered minor injuries while fighting a house fire early Tuesday at 210 Clarencedale Ave.

Injured but not requiring hospitalization was firefighter Lisa Santiago.

The occupant of the South Side house, Raul Magallon, escaped without injury. Two dogs were found dead on the second floor, according to reports.

The fire, which caused an estimated $15,000 damage to the structure and $3,000 to its contents, started on the porch. The cause is under investigation.

The house is owned by AFP Enterprises of Youngstown.

Memorial Day event

GIRARD

Memorial Day services will be at the Girard City Cemetery at 11 a.m. May 31.

Andrew Anthony, Courtney Keller, Bryan Dockerty and Sophia Martini each will read a biography of a deceased veteran from World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

Alisa Cario and Janette Gross will recite the Gettysburg Address. The Girard High School Band will play the “Star Spangled Banner” and taps. Scouts of Troop 40 will raise the flag.

Anyone participating in the services at the cemetery is asked to be there by 10:30 a.m.

Women’s expo

NILES

A women’s expo, “Empowering Women in the Community,” will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Eastwood Expo Center.

The expo will showcase a variety of businesses and services that will help women with well-being, financial, fitness and nutrition needs.

Dr. Ted Suzelis, a local natural-health expert, will speak at 1:30 p.m. Saturday about balancing women’s hormones; at 1 p.m. Sunday, he’ll talk about how to eat and live right for blood type.

Admission is $6. Those age 12 and under are free.
