Local attorney captures Welsh contest award
BOARDMAN
Boardman Atty. Susanne J. Hayden Liekar, Lady of English Penkelly, has been awarded a second- place award in the “How Welsh Are You?” contest sponsored by the contemporary communications class at the University of Oklahoma, in collaboration with the National Museum of Wales.
Inspired by an article in Cambria magazine showing coats of arms of various Welsh kings, Atty. Hayden Liekar created the coat of arms of Rhys ap Caradog Freichfras on a woolen cushion. She submitted a photograph of the tapestry in the contest and captured the award.
Atty. Hayden Liekar attended the Elm Street Congregationalist Church in Youngstown as a young child and is vice president of the St. David’s Society of Pittsburgh.
Winner of the first-place award in the contest was Rob Willis of Pittsburgh, who entered a photograph of himself dressed in medieval clothing, portraying the mythical Arthur Pendragon, King of the Britons.
The winners each received a gift basket from the National Museum of Wales, and their photographs will be displayed at the museum.
