Shakespearean acting workshop
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown Playhouse will host a Shakespearean acting workshop June 16-July 17, taught by Michael Dempsey, director of the current Playhouse production of “Curtains.” Dempsey will direct “Macbeth” at the Playhouse in October.
Through lecture, exercises, monologue and scene work, students will learn to integrate classical techniques into their own personal style. The class will meet from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Wednesdays, with an additional Friday evening or Saturday afternoon session.

In addition to being a director, Dempsey also is a novelist, playwright, actor and instructor who has worked throughout the country. He trained in Shakespearean acting with the National Theatre of Great Britain.
Spring wine fest
Geneva
The GaREAT Sports Complex, 1822 S. Broadway, will host the GaREAT Spring Wine Festival from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, featuring wine samples from 15 Northeast Ohio wineries. The event also will include food tastings, live entertainment, artists and crafters and sports vendors. In addition, the facility will be offering complimentary tours of the one-of-a-kind sports complex, which houses the only eight-lane, 300-meter indoor track in North America.

Pool tournaments

The national qualifier tournaments for the Eastern Ohio American Poolplayers Association will begin Friday at the Avon Oaks Ballroom, 1401 N. State St. Tournaments will run each weekend until the final rounds June 20.
The winning teams will travel to the national tournament in Las Vegas from Aug. 19 to 28.
