City council will consider requests Wednesday for 75-percent, 10-year real-property tax abatements from two businesses wanting to expand.

MS Consultants on East Federal Street is planning a 6,800-square-foot addition and renovation work to its existing 20,000-square-foot building.

The architectural, engineering and design company would expand its staff of 86 by 10 additional hires in the next two years if the abatement is approved.

The company plans to spend between $1.575 million and $2.4 million on the expansion project, according to its tax-abatement request.

Coronado Steel on Funston Drive wants to build a 9,760-square-foot machine-and-fabrication shop to serve as an adjunct to its steel foundry.

The company would spend $780,000 on the expansion project that also would include new machinery and equipment, according to its tax-abatement request.

The company employs 33 and would add five to eight machinists over the next three years under its expansion plans.

This would be Coronado’s sixth business expansion since it opened in 1997.

The information about the two tax abatements provided to The Vindicator by the city’s economic-development office doesn’t include how much tax money the companies would save if the proposals are approved.

If the abatements receive council approval, they next go to the city’s board of control for consideration.
