Ohio student prank case goes to grand jury

CINCINNATI (AP) — A grand jury will determine the next step in charges against 12 Cincinnati area high school seniors arrested when police broke up a planned end-of-the-year prank.

A municipal court judge said today the students can remain free while a grand jury decides whether to indict them as charged, indict on lesser counts, or drop the case.

Twenty teens were arrested at suburban Lockland High School last week, with 12 charged as adults on counts of breaking and entering and resisting arrest. The other eight will face juvenile court charges.

Parents and students say police overreacted. Police say the students had no good reason to be inside the building late at night and diverted public resources, including K-9 units and officers from five neighboring communities.
