Wayne Forest cleanup planned

NELSONVILLE, OHIO

Wayne National Forest is seeking volunteers from the community to assist in cleaning up trash at illegal dump sites located on the Athens Ranger District near Nelsonville from 10 a.m. to 3.p.m. Saturday.

Interested volunteers are asked to meet at the Forest Headquarters located between Nelsonville and Athens on U.S. Route 33. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Volunteers are asked to wear a long-sleeve shirt, long pants, boots and leather gloves (extra gloves will be available).

Water will be available, but bring containers to refill. The forest suggests volunteers bring a sack lunch or light snack.

Across the nation, volunteers are the heartbeat of the USDA Forest Service.

In 2009, Wayne National Forest accumulated almost 13,000 hours of volunteer time through individuals and group partnerships.

Working alone or with a group, Forest Service volunteers enjoy work that matches their interests and calendar. You may work on a part-time or full-time basis. You can participate in a one-time project or over several months, seasons or year-round.
