Gardening seminar set at McKeever

Staff report

SANDY LAKE, pa.

McKeever Environmental Learning Center will host an afternoon seminar about gardening Saturday.

The first session begins at 1 p.m. and will be about how to successfully garden with native plants, with a discussion led by Darrel Fry from the Three Sisters Farm.

Native plants are plants that can be found in Pennsylvania before European settlement. These plants tend to be drought and animal resistant and need less maintenance.

At 2 p.m., Juliette Jones will speak about how to create a schoolyard garden.

The last session of the afternoon will explain how to create a butterfly garden. McKeever’s butterfly garden will be used as an example to showcase what native plants can be used.

All the sessions will be in the Roy Wilt Auditorium. Weather permitting, there will be some outside portions.
