Fitch’s Thomas sets Federal record

Discus thrower George Thomas of Austintown Fitch set a Federal League meet record on Friday.
Thomas’ throw of 177 feet two inches won the discus contest at the Federal League Track and Field Meet at Lake High. His throw was almost 17 feet further than second-place Tom Vretas (North Canton Hoover).
Thomas also won the shot put competition with a toss of 53 feet 8.5 inches.
GlenOak won the boys competition with 119.5 points. Massillon Perry (104) and Fitch (85) followed. Boardman was fifth with 79 points.
Fitch’s Te’John Lawrence won the 100 meter dash in 10.91 and the 200 in 21.76.
Boardman’s Sam Deskin won the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:26.41. He was second in the 3200 with a time of 9:55.55.
The Spartans’ 4x100 relay team finished second to Canton GlenOak with a time of 43.87. Team members are T.J. Jordan, Devin Campbell, Nick Buonavolonta and Darel Green.
Fitch’s Wayland Andrews was second in the 400 with a time of 50.45 while Boardman’s Eddie Adu-Poku was third in the 800 (2:00.44).
In other field events, Boardman’s Allen Starkey was second in the long jump (21-0.75), teammate Joe Bialik was second in pole vault (14-0) and Fitch’s Jay Jakovina was second in the high jump (6-4).
In the girls meet, North Canton Hoover won with 148 points, followed by GlenOak with 116 and Fitch with 83. Boardman was fifth with 80 points.
Fitch’s Ali Tolich won the shot put competition (41-3.5) and the discus (160-2). Boardman’s Valerie Hood was second in those events (39-8 and 136-1).
In the long jump, Boardman’s Nicole Biagetti was second with 16-7. In the high jump, Fitch’s Makayla Martin was third with 5-0.
Boardman’s Nicole Vlad was third in the 100 hurdles (16.3), the 4x200 team (Nicole Biagetti, Lesley Koch, Lyndsay Olenych and Doriyon Glass) was second (1:45.97) and Glass was second in the 200 (24.97).
Fitch’s Jen Shiley won the 300 hurdles (45.52), the 4x400 team (Taylor Entzi, Alexis Cooper, Kaity Shiley, Jen Shiley) was third (4:05.41) and Entzi was second in the 400 (1:00.71).
