Fatal one-car crash
Jamestown, Pa.
One man was killed and two more people were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, after an accident at 5:16 a.m. Sunday.
James Thomas Rockwell, 19, of Sheakleyville, Pa., died of injuries in the one-vehicle accident.
The driver, Natasha Rae Mowery, 20, of Greenville, Pa., and Michael Shollenberger, 22, of Jamestown, were flown by a medical helicopter to St .Elizabeth.
Pennsylvania State Police said that Mowery was driving a 1995 sedan north on West Jamestown Road at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve to the right. The vehicle hit an embankment and spun clockwise until it hit two trees that caused the car to flip onto its roof.
Mowery was wearing a seat belt. Both passengers were ejected from the car.
Women’s roundtable

An Ohio Women Entrepreneurs Roundtable Discussion will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kent State City Center Library, 230 N. Lincoln St.
Sharon Hopkins, director of Ohio University’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center, and Joe Belinsky, a certified business adviser, can help attendees determine if their business can qualify for government contracts, instruct how to get their business certified as a woman-owned business, and provide information on procurement with government agencies.

Fairgrounds field day
LISBON
The 4-H Extension Office and the Columbiana County Fair Board are sponsoring their first field day at the county fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
More than 325 children from the Leetonia, Beaver Local and Robert Bycroft schools are expected to attend. The goal of the field day is to educate children, as well as their parents, of the benefits of 4-H that teaches life skills, the fun of being a 4-H member, exhibiting at the fair as well as exposing the children to the animals that are a large part of the fair.
Together with Julie Herron, the Ohio State University’s Extension Office coordinator, the fair board has developed the event to become an annual event, where local schoolchildren can learn about both organizations.
‘Taste of East Palestine’
East Palestine
Threshold Residential Services Inc. will have a “Taste of East Palestine” event from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at 110 Market St. The event will showcase restaurants in the East Palestine area and raise awareness of developmentally disabled people in Northeast Ohio.
“Taste of East Palestine” is a fund-raising event for Threshold. People may tour its new building. Tickets are $5 per person. There will be a silent auction.
Threshold Residential Services is Columbiana County’s largest provider of residential housing and support with homes throughout the county, including Salem, East Palestine, East Liverpool and Lisbon.

Disorderly conduct
NILES
A Royal Mall Drive resident was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated and criminal trespass after an incident at Washington Elementary School on Friday morning as students were arriving for class.
Police said Shane White, 30, had entered the school and asked to speak to his son, a student at Washington. The school maintains a list of adults authorized to take each student out of class, and White was not on it.
Police reports describe White as very intoxicated at the time. He is free on bond.
Police said students were never in any danger during the incident.
St. Rose registration
GIRARD
The St. Rose Sunny Days Day Care Center, 61 E. Main Street, is having registration for its summer program.
The program is for children age 3 through 12.

Memorial Day event
CAMPBELL
The public is invited to attend the annual Memorial Day program May 31.
The event is sponsored by American Legion F.D.R. Post 560 and the 37th Division.
Members will start the day at 8 a.m. at the Legion Hall, 103 12th St. At 9 a.m., they will visit St. John’s Cemetery for Memorial Day services. They then will proceed to Archangel Michael, St. John’s Russian, St. Nicholas and St. Michael’s cemeteries.
The program at the Campbell Memorial High School monument will begin at 11 a.m. State Sen. Joe Schiavoni will be the keynote speaker. The Memorial High School Band will play a medley of songs, and Taps will be performed by Angelica Vega.
Refreshments will be served at the American Legion Post 560 Hall after the ceremony.
Environmental grant
NEW CASTLE, Pa.
Pa. State Rep. Chris Sainato, D-Lawrence/Beaver, announced that the Lawrence County Conservation District was awarded a $5,800 grant under the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Education Grant Program.
Sainato said the grant will be used to coordinate a pharmaceutical collection and outreach program to ensure proper handling and disposal of unwanted medicines.
Chamber speaker

Youngstown State football coach Eric Wolford will speak at the Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly luncheon at noon June 9 at Frankie’s Main Street Cafe.
