Billock Construction captures league crown

Billock Construction, led by Shane Yesovich’s 243 game and 694 set, beat Prout Boiler for the 2009-10 Boardman Businessmen’s League.
The 12-team league recently concluded its 48th season at Boardman Lanes.
Prout Boiler was led by Bill DeCicco, whose roll-off scores included a 257 game and 663 set.
Other Billock members were: Dave Billock Sr., Dave Billock Jr., Tom Billock, Norm Dibkey, Phil Frame and Jim Waring.
Other Prout team bowlers were: Pete Chick, Ron Chick, Steve Garasic, Steve Fisher and Russ Turner, with Todd Bury and John Cullen as subs.
After a five-game Waste-Tech/Prout Boiler semifinal match, which included a fourth-game tie, Waste-Tech finished third, while the other semifinalist, Five Guys, placed fourth. The Waste-Tech bowlers were Bill Artz, Sean Flanagan, Dave Kiraly, Dick Marlowe, Glen Milton Jr. and Jim Mitchell. Mike Ciolli, Richard Knox, Dave Kuszaj, Bob Latimer, Dan Roberts and Todd Terlizzi — actually six guys — make up Five Guys.
The season was highlighted by three perfect games: Artz, Jerry Mariotti and Brian Umstead. Other high actual games were by Yesovich (298), Boardman Lanes co-proprietor Rich Wilson (290), Eric Grischow (289) and Bill Stanko (288).
Umstead’s 215 was high average, while John Dohar’s 210 and Rich Evans’ 207 were second and third, respectively. Fourth-best was the 206 posted by Artz and Mike Dohar, while William Smith had 202. Grischow, Anthony Mastrangelo Jr. and Jim Wellington had 201s. Floyd Barron, Dibkey, Tom Panagopoulos and Wilson all finished with 199s.
Umstead also had the league’s high set of 794, while Yesovich rolled 773, Mariotti 755, Ron Ilich 750 and Evans and Pete Katsaras 745s.
The Businessmen’s most-improved bowler was Knox, who increased his average from 140 to 154.
The year-end singles and doubles handicap tournament was won by Dibkey with a 709 singles; it bested Mastrangelo’s 704, Mike Dohar’s 703, DeCicco’s 699 and Mitchell’s 694.
Mastrangelo and his grandfather, Ron Theis, won doubles with 1397, while DeCicco and Turner were runner-up with 1362.
Bob Stanko received the 24th annual Pete Chick Sr. Memorial Award for outstanding fellowship and sportsmanship.
