Father, daughter restore fingers on RI statue

PROVIDENCE, R.I.

A proud Rhode Islander and his daughter are restoring the dignity of the state’s founding father.

Jim Lawrence and his daughter, Ally, worked recently to repair the right thumb and left fingers of the statue of Roger Williams in Providence’s Prospect Terrace park.

The digits from the statue’s hands were vandalized about four years ago.

The Lawrences poured a special restoration mortar onto stainless-steel rods they’ve embedded in the statue’s hands.

The two checked on the repair work several times.

The state now has a security camera focused on the statue.
