Columbiana’s Schlueter topples Rebels with 2-hitter

COLUMBIANA
Hank Schlueter tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Columbiana to an 8-0 victory over rival Crestview in a Division II baseball sectional final on Friday.
He struck out 11.
Andrew Burdick and Matt Douglas has three hits each for the Clippers (16-10), who advanced to a district semifinal next Thursday at Cene Park against McDonald.
Kyle Shaffer added a pair of singles for Columbiana, which scored four runs in the first inning. Tyler Denmeade added a double and Josh Saverko had two RBIs.
Mat May hit a double for Crestview (16-12).
Springfield 10, Leetonia 0
NEW MIDDLETOWN
Ronnie Bovo hit two doubles and scored twice for the Tigers (21-6) in the six-inning sectional game.
Nick Russell and Brad Ferraro each had two hits and two RBIs. Dylon Dejane also had two hits.
Winning pitcher Jimmy Behnke (6-0) struck out 10 batters and walked one.
For the Bears, Brandon Dattilio’s fifth-inning single was their lone hit.
Division III South Range 9, Mineral Ridge 6
NORTH LIMA
The top-seeded Raiders (19-5) used two big innings to advance to the Cene Park district.
Tom Delullo collected a single, a double and a triple while Jack McDonald doubled twice as South Range scored four times in the first inning and five times in the sixth.
McDonald (6-0) held the Rams to seven singles.
South Range will play Berkshire at Cene Park on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Grand Valley 9, Cardinal 4
MIDDLEFIELD
Winning pitcher Mitchell Lake homered while Robbie Slusher hit two doubles for Grand Valley (14-13). Adam Moodt also doubled for the Mustangs in the Div. III sectional final. Grand Valley advances to play Ursuline on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the district semifinals at Cene Park.
For Cardinal, Adam Farmwald, Tyler Duncan and Kyle Toth doubled.

BOARDMAN
Dan Spiker’s two-run homer in the seventh inning scored the winning run for the Falcons (8-17, 2-9 Federal League).
Anthony Savko had three hits including a homer while Sean Stewart’s two hits included a double. Tony Koch and Anthony Paris each had two hits.
For the Spartans, Dan Popio’s four hits included two doubles. Tyler Blangero had two hits
