Red Cross fundraiser bash to raise lots of cash

Mark your calendar for dancing and dinner for a cause.

The Mahoning Chapter American Red Cross will host its 14th annual Red and White Ball May 22 at Antone’s Banquet Center in Boardman from 6 p.m. to midnight. The black tie event will feature Greg Greenwood of Greenwood Chevrolet as honorary chairman.

The purpose of this special event is to raise funds for the American Red Cross Mahoning Chapter. The funds raised allow the Mahoning chapter to help the people in the local community to prevent and prepare for disasters. Most importantly, these funds allow the Mahoning chapter to provide relief for local disaster victims.

In the last fiscal year, the chapter provided assistance to nearly 150 families that were victims of disasters, at a cost of almost $150,000. It also assisted nearly 200 families through the Armed Forces Emergency Services during emergency situations.

In 13 years, the Red and White Ball has raised more than $1 million to support these vital programs and the event is constantly growing.

The Red and White Ball has grown to be a premier event and is the chapter’s largest fundraiser of the year. Money is raised through corporate sponsorships, program advertisements, ticket sales, a silent auction and a live auction. Approximately 20 percent of the financial needs for the Mahoning chapter are raised during this event.

The silent auction features an array of items from around the world. These items are donated by local businesses and individuals.

There will be a live auction featuring trips and sporting event packages. Guests can dance the night away to the music of The Look and enjoy dinner by Antone’s.
