Dobbins students share poems from their pockets

Dobbins Elementary invited family members for an afternoon of poetic activities April 29 for Poem in My Pocket Day.
Each week, students are given short poems to read in class and share and with their families. These poems coincide with the current lesson or topic that is being taught in class. This weekly practice helps with their comprehension, fluency and overall reading and learning skills.
In honor of National Poetry Month in April, second-graders gave their special guests a short presentation on poetry and then read poems they pulled from their pocket to family members.
The students read different genres of poetry and created their own poems throughout April.
