The weather forecast didn’t dampen the anticipation for the area’s oldest swap meet for car enthusiasts.
Dave and Ed’s Super Auto Event kicked off its 25th anniversary Apr. 30, May 1 and May 2 at the Canfield Fairgrounds with vendors, a car corral and a celebrity.
Spectators got to visit more than 2,000 vendors, that for the fifth consecutive year not only covered the inside of the fairgrounds, but also the racetrack and infield. Hubcaps, vintage license plates, jewelry and sunglasses are just a sample of what shoppers could purchase.
The car corral broke past show records for the most vehicles. Not only were transportation vehicles available for sale, but trailers, boats, motor homes and motorcycles could be purchased, too.
Some owners even brought their non-running vehicles in on trailers hoping to make a sale.
Kiko Classic Car Auctioneers set up under two tents and answered questions about the upcoming Classic Car Auction. They displayed a 1956 F100 that was the top truck in 2002 at the Pigeon Forge Show. That vehicle will be auctioned off July 17 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
This year’s event featured actor Paul LeMat, “John Milner” from the hot rod classic “American Graffiti.” He signed autographs and took pictures with many of the fans who came out to get a glimpse of the '70s icon.
Dave and Ed will host the July Canfield Swap Meet July 17, 18 and 19.
