With help from the PTA, the students from Austintown Middle School participated in a Cultural Arts and Science Fair at the school May 6.

In addition to various projects on display during the two-hour event, those who attended this open house were treated to live performances from the school’s band and choir along with poetry readings featuring original poems written by the students.

Vocal instrumental and poetry students from sixth, seventh and eighth grade performed on stage, while visitors were free to view exhibits that lined the hallways and cafeteria.

An example of projects on display includes eighth-grade students’ display of Lunar Settlement Projects that was completed as a class project. The assignment required them to work in groups to use both creative thinking and scientific knowledge.

Sculptures, collages, paintings and science projects showed a diverse sampling of student work with Falcon Pride Projects displayed separately. Also on display were samples of creative writing projects done by the students.

“This event is run by the PTA in an effort to share with the community the projects made by the students and the learning that is going on in the school.” said PTA member Randee Pipe.

During the evening, Pipe’s daughter, Rebecah, performed a Native American Shawl dance.

“This is a nice way for students to show their talents,” said PTA member Holly Lacusky, who volunteered to help with the event.
