A different kind of Bronx cheer
A different kind of Bronx cheer
The writer of the May 6 let- ter, “Not a fan of life in the city,” should stop complaining about Youngstown and move somewhere else. As a person who lived in the Bronx for over 40 years and moved here over 15 years ago I love this city. Anyone who likes to complain about it should live in the Bronx for a few years, and then they would come back and kiss the streets of this city!
These nay-sayers discourage the people and make them think it is so much better everywhere else but every place has problems. He sees the bars but I see many churches in the city and Christians who believe that God is working in this city to make it a better place.
I have lived on the South Side for these 15 years and have seen many positive changes in the city. The block that I live on has improved immensely over the years and the people here don’t bother anyone.
The mayor has done a great job and there have been over 1,000 vacant buildings removed over the last three years. The police are also doing a great job and I have seen them track down criminals and bring them to justice.
The recent article in INC magazine shows that Youngstown has people who not only believe in this city but are doing things to change it for the better so companies will come here and create new jobs.
It is every citizen’s responsibility to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. As a believer I pray for the city every day, for the leaders and that criminals will be brought to justice.
There are also many citizens who take care of their communities, pay taxes and attempt to beautify their homes and neighborhoods. A community group is targeting 100 neighborhoods so they can plant community gardens and work with citizens to improve their neighborhoods. Some people just curse the darkness but we would rather bring the light.
