Weathersfield Township trustees have authorized clerk Fred Bobovnyk to advertise for bids for the 2010 hot-mix road-paving program.

The program will be smaller this year than in 2009, but may cost more because the township already has committed $99,999 for its share of a County Line Road resurfacing and upgrade.

Mahoning County is to pay $99,999 for its share of the project, and a state issue 1 grant of $445,000 has been awarded, which will bring the total to about $645,000. County Line Road is maintained by both counties.

Trustee Chairman Steven Gerberry said an expected 3,159 feet of paving is planned by the township this year at an expected cost of $50,000 to $60,000.The paving projects in 2009 totaled $111,000.

“There’s going to be a lot of paving going on this year in the township,” Gerberry said.

Township paving will be made possible this year by the American Recovery and Reimbursement Act. That work will involve resurfacing: West Liberty Street from Weathersfield to the Girard city limits; a portion of Austintown-Warren Road; Carson Salt-Springs Road from Lordstown to Austintown-Warren Road; and Austintown-Warren Road from Lordstown to Carson-Salt Springs.
