Police are looking for three men who robbed and carjacked a 26-year-old man in the parking lot of a South Avenue bar.

The victim told police he pulled into the parking lot at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday waiting for two women. A Cadillac and a minivan pulled in shortly after the man parked with three men coming from the vehicles up to his truck.

Reports say the men pulled out guns and ordered the victim out his truck, telling him to walk down South Avenue. The three thieves took the truck along with the man’s money.

Street closing

YOUNGSTOWN

Gibson Street between Poland and East Myrtle avenues will be closed to traffic, starting Monday, for about 60 days for a storm-sewer installation project. Detour signs will be posted.

Also, motorists are advised to use caution on Woodland Avenue between Market and Gibson streets as road work continues.

Food will pay fines

YOUNGSTOWN

In honor of Children’s Book Week and Right to Read Week, Youngstown City School libraries are giving back to the community by canceling students’ late- and overdue-book fines in exchange for a nonperishable food donation for the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

Under the program, which ends Friday, students that have overdue books or library items may bring in a nonperishable food donation to the school for the food bank, and the library will cancel their book fines.

Neighborhood sign

YOUNGSTOWN

The 7th Ward Citizens Coalition will dedicate its first neighborhood sign at 9:30 a.m. Saturday as part of an effort to celebrate the communities in that area of the city.

The first sign designates the Buckeye Plat neighborhood and will be located at East Midlothian Boulevard and Loveland/Youngstown-Poland roads.

The coalition plans to erect four other neighborhood signs in the 7th Ward in the southeastern portion of the city.

Besides the community name, the signs also read: “A Proud 7th Ward Community.”

Cleanup day

EAST PALESTINE

The Rotary will sponsor a cleanup day drop-off from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot in front of the police station.

The fee is $5 per car load and $10 for pickup truck and SUV loads.

Items that will not be accepted include household pesticides, household hazardous-waste solvents, drain cleaner, bug and weed killer, pool chemicals, tree trimmings and logs, propane tanks, and compressed air tanks.

Additional fees may apply for items requiring special handling such as freon, televisions, batteries, paint and appliances. Auto tires will be accepted off-rims only.
