POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Girard and Liberty:

HUBBARD

May 9

Theft: Police arrested Beki Kraynak, no information given, at a motel on a warrant from Hubbard charging her of failing to appear for arraignment on a theft count.

May 10

Theft: A Church Street woman reported the theft of property.

Theft: A West Liberty Street woman reported her debit card stolen.

Theft: A woman told police her landlord removed property from her Youngstown-Hubbard Road home without authorization.

May 11

Weapon: An official with Reed Middle School, 150 Hall Ave., reported a student was caught with a knife.

GIRARD

May 8

Criminal mischief: A car’s locking mechanism was damaged in the 1000 block of Washington Avenue.

Theft: A $200 bicycle was stolen at a West Wilson Avenue home.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a vacant home in the 40 block of East Broadway Avenue, then stole copper pipes from the basement.

May 9

Criminal mischief: Two windows to a Summit Street residence were damaged by a BB gun and a paint ball gun.

Criminal damaging: A North Highland Avenue woman told officers someone had poured liquid on her $700 laptop computer.

Burglary: Occurred in the 400 block of Illinois Avenue, though nothing appeared to be missing.

Breaking and entering: A woman returned from vacation to her residence in the 200 block of Church Hill Road to discover someone had entered and was apparently staying there. Police said they found empty food wrappers and cigarette ashes on the floor.

May 10

Criminal damaging: Someone tossed a rock and broke a window at a North State Street business.

Theft: A woman’s purse was missing from a U.S. Route 422 building.

Theft: A man noticed a gold wristwatch and a gold bracelet missing from his North Ward Avenue home.

Criminal mischief: Someone entered a vacant residence in the 50 block of Hancock Street and poked holes in the walls.

May 11

Assault: A man visiting friends at an East Liberty Street home reported a woman, during an argument, slapped his face and struck him on the head with her shoe.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: An East Broadway Avenue woman said another woman borrowed but failed to return the accuser’s 1992 Oldsmobile Delta 98.

Burglary: About $1,000 worth of copper plumbing was taken from the basement of an East Broadway Avenue residence that someone had entered.

May 12

Burglary: In the 100 block of West Second Street. Stolen were two $300 laptop computers.

Assault: A 10-year-old boy said four other boys jumped, kicked, punched and stomped on the accuser as he walked to an East Howard Street residence.

LIBERTY

May 7

Assault: A James Lane woman reported her daughter, 8, was pushed to the ground and scratched while waiting for a school bus near their home.

Theft: The front license plate was stolen off a vehicle in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue.

Theft: Two Youngstown men reportedly stole four video games, a DVD and a cell-phone case from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, though neither had been charged at the time of the report.

Theft: A worker for an East Liberty Street motel discovered that on two occasions, a front-desk register was short of money.

Arrest: Police took custody of 29-year-old Kathryn Scott, 1588 Salt Springs Road, Niles, who was wanted on a warrant from the township.

May 8

Criminal damaging: Someone deliberately pushed a shopping cart into a vehicle at a Goldie Road business and damaged the car’s front bumper and paint.

Drugs: Officers cited Gary E. Kovach, 34, of 246 E. Wilson Ave., Girard, during a traffic stop near state Route 193. Two bags of suspected marijuana totaling 1.4 grams as well as a suspected marijuana pipe were found, police said.

Domestic violence: A 17-year-old Girard girl was charged after being accused of punching her sister during an argument.

Arrest: Champion police handed 30-year-old Christopher L. Beach, 4730 Logan Way, Liberty, to Liberty authorities. Beach was wanted on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and disorderly conduct.

Assault: A Euclid Boulevard woman told police her 6-year-old son was assaulted on a school bus. The boy said he had been struck in the face, elbow and shoulder.

Criminal trespassing: A Youngstown boy, 17, was charged after police said they found the teen in a Logan Arms Drive residence that he had been told to stay away from.

Breaking and entering: Someone used a rock to break a window before entering a residence in the 3600 block of Maplewood Drive and removing a TV and copper plumbing.

May 10

Arrest: Authorities picked up 37-year-old Felicia I. Wallace, 2727 Cain St., Youngstown, at the Mahoning County jail. Wallace was wanted by the township on a charge of failing to appear in court.

Burglary: To a James Lane residence that had its front door forced open. Stolen were a 42-inch TV, a Nintendo game console and five video games.

Aggravated menacing: A Ravine Drive woman reported receiving a threatening and derogatory voicemail message.

Burglary: After someone jimmied a door and entered a Trumbull Court apartment, where two jewelry boxes and various medications were stolen.

Possible arson: The Liberty Fire Department was investigating a suspicious fire at the Tallyho-tel, 4249 Belmont Ave., that damaged a bed and caused smoke damage to walls and the ceiling of a room.

May 11

Burglary: Took place in the 1400 block of Gypsy Lane, where someone ransacked several rooms, broke into a safe and stole about $51,000 worth of money and jewelry.

Arrest: A traffic stop near state Routes 193 and 304 resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Jaymelyn Williams, 711 St. Clair Ave., Girard, who was wanted by the Youngstown Municipal Court on a probation-violation charge.

Arrest: While checking Miller’s Towing Inc., 4100 Belmont Ave., officers arrested 47-year-old Zane C. Johnson of Cleveland on charges of vandalism, criminal trespassing and complicity. A search of the area turned up several catalytic converters thought to have been removed from vehicles on the property, a report said.
