The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., will offer visitors a free reproduction of an artwork from its permanent collection Tuesday as part of International Museum Day.
Museums such as the Butler will focus on the roles they play in their communities, showcase their collections, and raise awareness of their educational programs.
In addition to its well-known permanent collection, a wide range of temporary exhibitions are on display at the Butler, including: pop artist Andy Warhol, Minimalist painter Jules Olitski, maritime artist John Stobart, watercolors by three generations of the Wyeth family (N.C, Andrew and Jamie), an exhibit of fabric works by Holocaust survivor E. N. Krinitz, a digital geometric display by New York artist Ken Schafer, landscape photographs by regional artist Michael Cole and a neon installation by Cleveland artist Jeffry Chiplis.
The exhibition of works by Robert Vonnoh, a master of American Impressionism, is the highlight of the Butler’s spring offerings.
Louis Zona is the director of the Butler and a member of the American Association of Museum Directors — the group sponsoring Museum Day. “The Butler offers free admission daily, presenting the best of American art since 1919,” said Zona. “This is an excellent time to visit to enjoy one of our country’s most preeminent collections.”
