Pittsburgh man convicted in son’s fatal stabbing
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh man has been convicted of third-degree murder in the stabbing death of his son.
Fifty-nine-year-old Gordon McGowan Sr. faces 20 to 40 years in prison in the October 2008 death of his son, 19-year-old Gordon Jr., in the elder McGowan’s home.
Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Jill Rangos found the elder McGowan guilty Tuesday in a non-jury trial. McGowan’s attorney argued he had provoked by his son.
McGowan Sr. testified that his son had pinned him down during a fight then stumbled into a knife the father had picked up. McGowan Jr. died of a stab wound to the neck.
Prosecutors say the elder McGowan admitted killing his son during a 911 call and changed his story multiple times.
