Police are investigating several acts of gunfire in the city, including one that left an 18-year-old South Side man hospitalized.

Police found the 18-year-old Cornell Street man sitting behind the wheel of a 1999 Buick Century on East Avondale bleeding from gunshot wounds to his left leg and abdomen. The man told police he was at the playground behind Taft Elementary School when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot.

The man told police he drove himself to the Avondale residence after realizing he had been shot. He was later taken to the hospital by ambulance and listed in critical condition.

Witnesses in the area of the shooting told police they saw three men approach the victim as he exited his car behind the school. The witnesses said they heard gunfire immediately thereafter.

Police also are trying to determine who fired gunshots into a North Bon Air Street home Monday evening.

The homeowner told police he heard noises that could have been gunfire near the house. When the homeowner and officers inspected the house, nine bullet holes were found in various places including a front metal door, interior wall and dining-room archway.

In another incident, gunshots were fired into a Hubbard man’s car while he was driving down McGuffey Road at 1:30 a.m. Monday.

The man told police he was stopped at a red light and heard gunfire just as the light changed to green, realized his car had been hit and drove to the police station.

Officers found two bullet holes in the car.
