Pasquine selected
WASHINGTON, PA.
Washington & Jefferson senior Jim Pasquine was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conf. baseball hitter of the week.
Pasquine, a graduate of Poland High School, went 7-for-13 (.538) on the week with three home runs and nine RBIs.
Basista takes second

Kristen Basista of Mineral Ridge High School took second place in the 300 hurdles at the Jesse Owens Classic track meet at OSU’s Jesse Owens Stadium.
Basista was also third in the 100 hurdles.
SAFA suspends two team administrators
JOHANNESBURG
The South African Football Association says it has suspended its commercial director and national team manager just a month before the World Cup.
SAFA issued a statement Monday saying Bafana Bafana team manager Sipho Nkumane and the association’s commercial director Victor Nosi were suspended pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.
The statement said the group was looking into “allegations” against Nkumane and Nosi but did not give any details.
Hammer thrower gets doping ban reduced
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
A hammer thrower had her two-year drug suspension reduced to four months, handing the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency a rare loss in arbitration.
An arbitration panel ruled Monday that it found Jessica Cosby’s explanation about taking a “water pill” to help her urinate to be believable and that it wasn’t taken to enhance her performance.
Cosby’s positive test came shortly after she finished seventh at worlds last year. Her mother gave her the pill containing banned diuretics.
Belgium’s Weylandt wins 3rd cycling stage
MIDDELBURG, Netherlands
Wouter Weylandt edged Graeme Brown of Australia in a sprint finish Monday to take the third stage of the Giro d’Italia, the last in the Netherlands before the race heads back to Italy.
The Belgian broke away from the main pack in the final yards to finish the stage in 5 hours, 6 seconds.
Cadel Evans, hoping to become the Giro’s first Australian winner, lost the overall lead to Alexandre Vinokourov of Russia.
Today is a rest day. The 21-stage event resumes Wednesday. The grueling 2,133-mile race ends May 30 in Verona.
Injured Fabregas and Torres on Spain roster
MADRID
Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres have been included in Spain’s preliminary 30-man World Cup roster as they recover from injuries.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque announced their selection Monday. He must cut to the 23-man limit by June 1.
Del Bosque recently admitted he was concerned about the recovery of the duo, who have been key members of the Spanish team.
The roster also includes Sevilla winger Jesus Navas, who earlier in his career ruled himself out of soccer due to anxiety attacks.
Golfer Blasberg dies; police investigating
LAS VEGAS
Police and an agent for 25-year-old Erica Blasberg say the LPGA Tour golfer has died.
Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul said Monday that authorities were investigating Blasberg’s Sunday death. It was not immediately clear whether foul play was involved.
Blasberg’s agent, Chase Callahan, confirmed her death but declined to provide details because of the investigation.
