History of tavern program planned

Salem Historical Society will have a brief business meeting at 7 p.m. today in the society’s meeting room. David Peterson, manager of the Spread Eagle Tavern in Hanoverton, will present a program about the tavern that was built in 1837 by William Rhoads. The talk also will include information about the building’s second owner, Perry Nicholas, his family, their life tragedies and other interesting people in the town’s history.
