Sculptor’s work at Butler museum

YOUNGSTOWN

An exhibition of the work of renowned sculptor Jedd Novatt is on display now through December at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave. The exhibition, titled “Chaos,” presents five sculptures, some of which serve as preliminary drawings for the monumental works for which Novatt has become known.

“Jedd Novatt’s work represents a remarkable step forward in contemporary sculpture,” said Lou Zona, director of the museum. “His compositions challenge long-standing visual concepts and provide us with interesting new approaches, both formally and conceptually.”

The Butler exhibition presents cubelike forms in steel or bronze that appear to be in a precarious balance, adding movement and challenging the geometry of the cube.

Novatt was born in New York City in 1958 and had his first solo exhibition in 1993. He lives in Spain.
