The American Cancer Society will host its first Pink Ribbon Social from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Stambaugh Auditorium on Fifth Avenue.

The event will mark the society’s one-year anniversary as the official sponsor of the Birthdays Campaign, which focuses on the importance of breast cancer awareness.

During the evening, local cake decorators and bakeries will challenge each other in a cake competition. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to sample sheet cakes, and cakes will be auctioned at the end of the evening.

Vendors will be on hand to serve samples of appetizers and hors d’oeuvres, and merchants will display and sell a variety of items. There also will be live music and a Chinese auction.

Rounding out the evening will be a candlelight ceremony to honor those touched by breast cancer and in memory of those who lost their battle to the disease. There will be a $5 donation for each candle.

Lynn Davis of Y-103 Radio will serve as emcee. WKBN-TV 27 Caring For Our Community and the Sharon Herald Views & Voices Magazine are media partners. Boardman Medical Supply Pink Promises Post-Mastectomy Boutique is a major sponsor.

The donation for the event is $25, with special rates available for groups and parties of eight or more. For tickets contact La Dawn Whitman at (888) 227-6446, ext. 2204, or e-mail ladawn.whitman@cancer.org.
