HONORS

Honor society inductee

Melissa Straub, daughter of Edward of Michele Straub of Canfield, recently was inducted into Ohio Northern University’s senior honor society — the Aurora Chapter of Mortar Board — based on her scholarship, leadership and service.

Straub, a Canfield High School graduate, also was accepted into the University of Toledo College of Medicine’s MedStart program, an early-admission program for the medical school. She will start there in August 2011. She will graduate from ONU in May 2011.

At ONU, Straub serves as president of the Zeta Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and the Society of Medical Professionals. She is secretary of the Professional Association of Women in Science. Last spring, she received ONU’s Debow Freed award for outstanding student leadership.

Trooper Michael G. Wilson of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canfield Post has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. He will remain in Canfield to serve as an assistant post commander.

Wilson began his patrol career in May 1992. He earned his commission in November of that year and was assigned to the Warren Post.

In January 2003, he transferred to the Canfield Post, where in 2006 he earned the Ace Award for excellence in auto-larceny enforcement.

Originally from Youngstown, Wilson lives in Vienna with his wife, Kristine, and their three children.
