CRIMESTOPPERS: New evidence surfaces in 1988 murder of Girard woman

New evidence has been obtained in the Jan. 25, 1988, abduction, rape and murder of Eileen Zarlenga, 29, of Girard. At the request of Girard Police Department and Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, Crime Stoppers of Greater Youngster is offering a reward of $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who killed Zarlenga.
The public’s help is needed to develop suspects that can be matched to evidence in the case.
The victim was lured from her home on Partricia Drive by a person or people she knew, police believe. At the time of her abduction, the victim’s 3-year-old daughter was asleep in the home. Family members have said Zarlenga would never have left the child alone.
Her body was discovered five days later in a wooded area near Gladstone Road in Jackson Township,.
